Conclusion

Men came to our home one night, Roberto tells the Great Chamberlain. They tied Dad to his chair, and they beat him to own up. I do not know what they wanted. I did not understand, but we had to stay watching them torturing him. And as Dad said nothing, they put us into a large prison. On leaving, they told us that this would allow us to think… I do not know what harm we could have done. I have never seen Dad again.”
Standing on the tips of his toes, on the prison bench, too little to catch sight of the street, Roberto can only see the stars, his arms extended to the sky, his fingers tight around the bars of the small skylight he uses as window. He is in prison because his father was a political opponent in his country.

The Great Chamberlain drags the small boy with him on this long journey.

He has only five children left to find…
